Residence Life Learning Outcomes

A learning outcome is a brief description of what students will learn while they are living on campus and guides how that learning is measured by Xavier. Learning outcomes can also help students take charge of their personal growth and better recognize how living on campus is shaping their overall wellbeing and college experience.

Our learning outcomes were developed with the needs of today's students in mind while also intentionally facilitating programs and learning opportunities that are engaging, impactful, memorable, and unique to Xavier. We have categorized our learning outcomes into three themes: skill development, self-advocacy and personal responsibility, and interpersonal communications.

By living on campus during the academic year, residential students will have the opportunity to:

Skill Development

  • Identify resources to assist students in connecting academically and socially during their time at Xavier.
  • Develop the leadership skills necessary to serve the campus and broader community in a responsible manner.
  • Create and maintain personal wellbeing practices to lead a healthier lifestyle incorporating the Jesuit value of holistic care.

 Self-Advocacy & Personal Responsibility

  • Address concerns by utilizing productive communication and confrontation practices for the enhancement of their residential experience.
  • Demonstrate their responsibility in being a constructive member of the residential community by aligning their individual behavior with community expectations.

 Interpersonal Communications

  • Identify strategies for successfully interacting with people who hold diverse perspectives in pursuit of an inclusive, caring residential community.
  • Serve campus, local, and national causes for the development of an interdependent community focused on the needs of all, not one.
