Dining Hall and Chartwells
Hoff Dining Hall
Xavier's Hoff Dining Hall is adorned with symbols and communications associated with the Gifts of the Ignation Heritage, the Seal of the Society of Jesus, and waste reduction and climate change mitigation messaging.
Dining at Xavier strives to serve ingredients from small to mid-sized local farms. Education is a big focus of the dining hall, and there is a food waste collection and reduction event. Some other programs are focused on minimizing environmental impact of food, sustainable purchasing initiatives, supporting charitable initiatives, nutrition and wellness, recycling and waste reduction, and energy and water conservation. Reusable takeout boxes have also been introduced in order to prevent the usage of styrofoam containers.
Hoff has a 5-level vertical hydroponic grow system that produces bok choy, basil, mint, kale, lettuce, micro greens, and edible flowers that are all used in student dining meals.
Auxiliary Services Meal Donations
To further support the cry of the poor and our Jesuit values, Auxiliary Services has introduced a new online system where students can donate meals in the form of swipe card entry into the Hoff Dining Commons and then anonymously requested by students who face food insecurity.
