Integral Ecology & Sustainability

Academics

Xavier University strives to put a focus on the sustainability of its campus and growing the trait in its student body. The University has taken on the help of the Ecology Education Subcommittee to spotlight courses with a Sustainability Attribute. As the Attribute is linked with the syllabi of certain courses we offer here on campus, it will make locating courses with topics in sustainability much easier for students who are looking for, or happen to stumble across and have an interest, much easier.

Our campus is proud to offer a handful of majors and minors for our students that have a want to pursue this field, highlighted by a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Sustainability, and Society and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. Partnered with Duke University, a student can obtain their graduate degree in Environmental Science in five years, as well as the traditional undergraduate degree from Xavier University alone, where more information can be found on the Environmental Science Majors page here or in the navigation menu.

As Xavier believes in growing our students in a well-rounded manner, many study options are provided that allow the student to experiences different ways of living nationally and unique cultures internationally. Many of these programs intertwine with the idea of Sustainability, with options to visit all seven continents. Some of these options include Costa Rica, Ireland, Wales, England, and a program called Xavier Expeditions, led by Theology Professor Leon Chartrand, to all seven continents.
