December 2023

Hello, Xavier Families!

Final exams are almost here, which means the most challenging moment of the semester is upon us. During this time, sending an encouraging message or checking in on your student can make a world of difference. Some students may even need encouragement to take a break and have some fun. With all the campus activities and Crosstown Shootout events happening this week, there’s so many ways for you and your students to engage with our community.

It has been so fun to see the outpouring of support from all of you during the Crosstown Foodout. This time of year is always a reminder to me of how amazing our Xaver Family truly is. Thank you for being a part of what makes this place so special.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Holiday Season!

Go X!

Fall 2023 Exam Schedule

As a reminder, Final Exams take place from December 11-15. Each student’s exam schedule is dependent upon their current class schedule. More information about the final exam schedule can be found online or in your student's course syllabi.

Join us for the Crosstown Foodout

Join us this week for the 2nd Annual Crosstown Foodout, where Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati communities are coming together to reduce food insecurity on our campuses. Between December 2-9, the Bearcats and the Musketeers will compete to see who can receive the most gifts for our respective campus food pantries.

There are three ways to participate in the Crosstown Foodout to support Xavier:

  • Follow The Store via Instagram: @Thestorexu
  • Make a monetary donation to Xavier University's The Store
  • Submit an order via Amazon Wishlist: The Store

Basketball Watch Party Opportunities

  • Cincinnati Watch Parties
    • The Filson is Cincinnati’s official fan destination for Xavier Men’s Basketball watch parties. Stop by on gameday for tasty food and drinks while connecting with some of the most passionate fans in the city!
  • Regional Watch Parties
  • X on The Road
    • The X on The Road series brings Xavier leaders to your city to talk about all things Xavier. These events, specifically designed for alumni, prospective students and families, include pre-game watch parties and opportunities to network with other members of the Xavier Family.
  • Meet X in NYC Giveaway
    • Attending these events gives you a chance to enter The X in NYC Giveaway sponsored by Schiff Insurance and the Cincinnati Insurance Companies! Xavier families are eligible to win free airfare, hotel accommodations, and two tickets to the BIG EAST Tournament held on March 13-17, 2024.

A Message from the Office of Residence Life

  • Residential areas close for Winter Break at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec.15. Students are expected to depart campus 24 hours after their last final or by the closing date. The Winter Break housing request, for students needing to stay past the closing date, is open on Housing Self-Service.
  • RAs have been hosting floor meetings regarding closing. Check with your student to see if they have already attended a meeting or their plans for attending a future closing meeting.
  • Students who do not plan to return to Xavier for spring semester, due to graduating, withdrawing, or studying abroad, should plan to submit the Not Returning to Housing form on Housing Self-Service.
  • The housing selection process for rising sophomores (current first year students) for the 2024-2025 academic year will begin with the application opening soon after students return in January from Winter Break. If your student needs to meet with a medical provider to update accommodation paperwork with Accessibility and Disability Resources encourage them to do so over Winter Break.

A Message from the Office of the Bursar

Spring 2024 eBills will be issued on December 1, 2023. The due date for invoices will be December 20, 2023. As a reminder, Xavier University will be closed for the holiday's starting December 22, 2023. Payments received after this date may not be applied until we return to the office in the new year.

A Message from Auxiliary Services

  • The Xavier basketball season is underway. Please make sure your student is up to date on all parking policies and advisories, particularly on game days. Email reminders go out, but it is important to note that unauthorized vehicles are at risk of being towed, per the university’s towing and relocation policy.
  • Meal plans for Spring 2024 can be added or changed starting in mid-December. If you upgraded a plan for Fall, that plan will rollover to the Spring. Please check your current meal plan and make any changes up to the 1st Friday of the Spring Semester, January 12. (Students in traditional housing without kitchens are required to have a Silver or Blue plan and can only change dining dollar allotments for the Spring.)
  • For those bringing a car to campus for the first time in the Spring, parking permits will be reduced to the Spring semester cost in mid-December. Once a permit is ordered, don’t forget to print out the temporary permit to park on campus until the sticker is received. Reach out to Parking Services with any issues or questions.
  • The end of the semester is approaching! To avoid any fees, don’t forget to return all physical textbooks to the Day One Depot at the conclusion of the semester before returning home.
  • The Musketeer Meal Share pilot program is underway. Students on meal plans can share a guest swipe or meal swipe depending on the plan they are enrolled in. These meals are collected and can be requested by students without a meal plan who may be facing food insecurity. The Musketeer Meal Share program is accessed on the Transact Mobile Ordering App. Students facing food insecurity are also encouraged to utilize The Store food pantry, located in the Village Apartments.
  • Xavier Eats’ famous Late Night Breakfast is on December 11 from 9:00-10:30 p.m. at Hoff Dining Commons. Entry to Late Night Breakfast is free of charge and all students are welcome.

Winter Wonderland Event

The Office of Student Involvement has planned a magical Winter Wonderland event this evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Xavier Yard. Encourage your student to attend and celebrate the start of winter in our outdoor wonderland, featuring ice skating, stuff-a-plush characters, snow tubing, free food and hot chocolate! More information is available on EngageXU

University Tree Lighting Ceremony

All students are invited to join our second annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, Friday, Dec. 8 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. The event will take place outside of Justice Hall at the Sally Watson Tree. Join the Xavier Community as we come together to celebrate the season with caroling, warm beverages, treats and more.
