November 2023
Hello, Xavier Families!
It was so great to connect with so many of you during Family Weekend. I am hopeful you and your student’s are feeling re-energized as we head into the last full month of classes. November is a busy month around here, with basketball season and Spring 2024 Priority Registration next week.
Here are some helpful tips as you and your student navigate through the month of November together:
- If your student has not done so already, encourage them to schedule an academic advising appointment prior to their registration time- otherwise known as their “Time Ticket”.
- During this appointment they will discuss which courses—based on their major/s and minor/s—are recommended to take in the Spring semester and any other questions they may have about their four-year plan.
- Each student should have received an email with their Time Ticket, but this information is also available within Self-Service for them.
- Meeting with an academic advisor each semester is an essential component to staying on track for graduation.
- Our Student Success Center is offering drop-in registration support in the Gallagher Student Center and Justice Hall at the following times:
- Wednesday, November 8 from 2-4 PM
- Thursday November 9 from 11 AM – 3 PM
- Monday,November 13 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
- Please encourage your student to contact their success coach if they need support with registration outside of these times.
- November 21 is the last day to withdraw from a course. If your student is considering withdrawing from a course, they should have a conversation with their professor and academic advisor prior to doing so.
- If you want to join in on the fun of the Basketball Season, you can find the schedule and ticket information online at GoXavier.com. Encourage your student to join X-treme Fans for the best opportunity for tickets to the Men’s Basketball games.
As always, please reach out if you or your student need anything.
Go X!

Veteran's Week Celebration
This year, Xavier’s Veteran and Military Family Center, along with our two student clubs, Student Veterans of Xavier (SVX) and Military Dependents of Xavier (MDX) will be hosting a day of recognition and thanks on Friday November 10th. The day will be filled with various activities, games and movies here in our Center with a hosted lunch from 12:00-1:00 p.m. that will also include other Military Veteran employees from across Xavier’s campus. The day will culminate with our annual Veteran Appreciation Basketball Game against Jacksonville with tipoff at 6:30 p.m. at the Cintas Center. This year, we are honored to be joined by retired Army Lieutenant General Michael Barbero and his wife Linda as well as World War II Veteran, Army Major Ed Burke, his daughter Pat and their extended family.
Important reminders from Residence Life
- Residential areas will remain open during Thanksgiving Break. Students who will be staying on campus during this time are asked to register on Housing Self-Service. Registration is currently open. Students can consult the Musketeer Memo email for more details. Please note, Hoff Dining will close after dinner the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
- Residential areas will close for Winter Break at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 15th. Students are expected to depart campus 24 hours after their last final or by the closing date. Student's who need an extended stay or housing during break will be provided more information on the request process after they return from Thanksgiving break.
- The housing selection process for rising sophomores (current first year students) for the 2024-2025 academic year will begin in January after students return from winter break.
- If your student is a rising junior or senior and did not apply and select a space during the housing process, and now wishes to live on campus, they will need to select a space on the waitlist. In the meantime, please encourage your student to check this link for off-campus housing options.
Auxiliary Services Reminders
- With Men's Basketball starting up, make sure your student is staying up to date on all advisories and parking policies to ensure they are not ticketed or towed. Emails will be sent to individuals with parking permits to remind them where they can and cannot park on game days.
- Now is the time to check in with your student about their Dining Dollars balance. If they are running low, money can be added on their Transact eAccounts app with a credit card ($50 minimum) and balances will carry over from Fall to Spring.
- If your student owns a Kia or Hyundai vehicle parked on campus, XUPD encourages utilizing anti-theft steering wheel locks and will provide one for registered vehicles with an active permit.
- For the most up to date announcements, as well as special events, we encourage you and your students to follow @xavierdining @xuauxservices and @xavierbookstore on Instagram or Facebook.
