Courtesy Services
Xavier Police are available to assist stranded motorists with dead batteries or ignition keys locked inside the car anywhere on campus. To reach an officer dial 513-745-2000 or simply press the call button on one of the assistance telephones.
The Xavier University Police Department (XUPD) offers a safety escort to locations on and off campus. The nature of the request and distance of travel will be taken into account on a case by case basis. This service is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Transportation or escort is available to students, staff, faculty and visitors who need a safety escort between locations on campus and to certain locations off campus. To request an escort dial 513-745-2000 or use any of the blue campus assistance telephones.
- Medical Escort: Requests for medical escorts will be handled in the same manner as a safety escort with the understanding that an exigent circumstance should exist that precludes alternative arrangements from being carried out at that time. XUPD does not have the manpower and resources to perform scheduled transports or regular recurring requests for transportation. Persons requesting this type of service are to be directed to an on-duty or on-call supervisor for recommended alternatives.
- Courtesy Escorts: Requests for a courtesy escort are to be honored whenever possible. These types of requests are an exception to the rule and should not constitute an ongoing pattern that disrupts public safety services; however, officers are encouraged to interact with the students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Xavier University in a manner that is consistent with the principles of Community and Problem Oriented Policing. Honoring these types of requests builds support for the XUPD and is encouraged to the extent possible.
- Denial of Services: In the event any of the previously identified escort requests are denied the supervisor denying services will complete a report to the Director of Public Safety/Police Chief and the Vice President of Financial Operations and Risk Management. The Director of Public Safety/Police Chief or a designated representative will conduct appropriate follow-up.
