Cintas Ethics Conference Grants (CECG)

The Cintas Institute for Business Ethics supports visiting and tenure track/tenured faculty in attending domestic or international conferences that have ethics or compliance as its main focus. Some of these conferences (e.g. The Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, The Ethics and Compliance Officer Association, and the Healthcare Compliance Association) also offer certifications for attendees who attend a conference, take a certifying exam, and maintain continuing education units, within the discipline. Interested faculty members are encouraged to seek ethics or compliance related certification, present ethics and compliance related research, or attend ethics or compliance related conferences. The Cintas Ethics Conference Grants (CECG) would reimburse the registration, meals, travel and housing during these conferences as provided below.

Requirements:

  1. The conference would either have ethics or compliance in its title, or at least half of the conference tracks were related to ethics or compliance related issues.
  2. In advance of the conference, the faculty member writes an essay, no more than 500 words, about how attending the conference would help her/him incorporate ethics or compliance related issues, into their courses. The applicant attaches a copy of the conference program.
  3. The faculty member submits a draft expense request, and has that request approved by the Cintas Institute for Business Ethics. Other funding should be indicated.
  4. After attending the conference, the faculty member participates in a panel discussion or workshop, open to all WCB faculty, about their experiences.

Other:

The faculty member must pre-pay all the conference related expenses. These expenses, subject to meeting one the following conditions, will be reimbursed:

  1. If the faculty member is seeking an ethics or compliance related certification, she/he successfully completes the certification process with a passing score.
  2. If the faculty member is delivering an ethics or compliance related paper or a presentation, she/he is listed in the conference program, and delivers the paper or presentation at that conference.
  3. If the faculty member is only attending the ethics or compliance related conference and neither seeking a related certification, nor delivering a presentation or paper, she/he demonstrates that they attended the conference and the compliance and ethics related sessions.

Funding Amounts:

  1. If the faculty member passes a certification exam pre-approved by the Cintas Institute for Business Ethics, or has an ethics or compliance related presentation or paper accepted for the domestic or international conference, the Cintas Institute for Business Ethics will reimburse
    1. Conference Registration, up to $3,000.00
    2. Roundtrip coach airfare, up to $2,000.00
    3. Conference hotel fees, up to $1,000.00
    4. Reasonable rate for parking and other transportation
    5. Per diem meal expenses, for $40.00 a day.
  2. If the faculty member is only attending the ethics or compliance related conference, the Cintas Institute for Business Ethics will reimburse”
    1. Conference registration, up to $1,500.00
    2. Roundtrip coach airfare, up to $1,500.00
    3. Conference hotel fees, up to $500.00
    4. Reasonable rate for parking and other transportation
    5. Per diem meal expenses, for $40.00 a day.

Selection Process:

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, throughout the year. When an application is submitted, a committee comprised of the Director of the Cintas Institute for Business Ethics, the Associate Dean of the Williams College of Business, and two Advisory Board Member from the Cintas Institute for Business Ethics, will review the application. If anyone serving on this selection committee is applying for a CECG, she/he will be replaced on the selection committee by another member of the Cintas Institute for Business Ethics Advisory Board.
