Advice for Families

Encourage Advisor Engagement: Support your student in seeking guidance from their academic advisor when making decisions about course selection and registration. Advisors are a valuable resource who can help clarify academic options, but final choices about courses are up to the student. Remind your student to reach out to their advisor for advice if they’re uncertain about their academic direction.

Promote Independence: Encourage your student to communicate directly with professors and advisors, using tools like Canvas to track progress.

Support Exploration: Remind your student that changing majors or exploring career paths is okay, and Xavier supports this process. We encourage students to check out our Career Development Office for support in the exploration process.

Let Them Lead: Trust your student to take ownership of their academic decisions, offering support when needed.
