Interprofessional Teaming

Student Information

The February 2025 Interprofessional Student Symposium, Teaming for Dementia Care will include over 150 students representing Exercise Science, Health Service Administration, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Social Work and Speech Pathology. Students will work on interprofessional teams to recommend client-centered goals and interprofessional interventions for a client who experiences dementia. The speaker, Sena Quist, will offer students insights and inspire compassionate care planning in her keynote presentation.

IPEC Competencies

At the Interprofessional Student Symposium, participants will engage in collaborative teamwork that directly aligns with the InterProfessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies, gaining hands-on experience in communicating responsibly and compassionately while developing client-centered interventions for dementia care. Students will have the unique opportunity to understand and appreciate the distinct roles of various healthcare disciplines, from Exercise Science to Speech Pathology, while maintaining an environment of mutual respect and shared ethics. Through both the keynote presentation by Sena Quist and the interprofessional team case work, participants will learn to adapt their discipline-specific expertise to strengthen team-based approaches for improving health outcomes in dementia care. This website provides more specific information about the most recent IPEC Core Competencies.

Many thanks to the College of Professional Sciences Dean’s office for the ongoing financial support, to the planning team members, and the Mount St. Joseph’s Physical Therapy and Speech and Language Pathology programs for joining us for this event.
