Vision Statement
Our vision is to create a community of mathematical learning in which we promote outstanding teaching, deep understanding, and active scholarship in mathematics for all who seek to learn.
The faculty of the Department of Mathematics envision ourselves as a community of active scholars who promote the value of cura personalis, with regard to both our students and our colleagues. Our commitment to the development of outstanding undergraduate majors in the mathematical sciences, our dedication to excellence in the teaching of mathematics, and our passion for the advancement of mathematical research are easily recognized. In working to embody these values, we also model Xavier University’s pledge to promote and support the development and success of diversity and inclusion initiatives that advance Xavier's Jesuit Catholic mission.
Our students know that their classmates and instructors form a first-rate community of scholars and educators, supportive of their learning of mathematics. The mathematical training of our students contributes greatly to their self-actualization. We are continually updating and enriching our course offerings to deliver a rigorous, interesting, and exciting curriculum, constructively using new technologies and innovative pedagogies, as well as tried-and-true teaching methodologies. We envision a department in which researchers are accomplished in both working with students and in contributing to the body of mathematics, a department in which we nurture the growth of our majors and consistently improve the quality of our programs.
Our deep support of the University’s mission and strong participation in its shared governance help guide the department to work for the greater good, continuing to build a community in which we work well together, in solidarity and mutual respect.
