About Sustainability at Xavier
As a Jesuit institution, we are morally and ethically called to care for this planet and the rights of all living beings with whom we share this planet with. Without placing sustainability as one of Xavier’s top priorities, we are doing a great disservice to our Jesuit identity and the mission we promise to embody.
Jesuit education has great advantages in areas related to sustainability. We have a core curriculum that offers key building blocks for seeking integration and wisdom. We seek to form persons for others, for lives of solidarity of service, with particular care for the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized. We cannot do this if we are ignoring the looming existential, ethical crisis of our time: the crisis of the environment.
