Regal Prince Oak

Quercus x warei

Overview

The Regal Prince Oak is a variant of Ware Oak that can grow up to 45 feet high. The hybrid of English oak  and swamp white oak come together to form this strong tree. In the fall, its alternate, simple, round lobed leaves turn from a dark green to a bright shade of yellow. The one inch long acorns are born on stalks that are roughly 1-3 inches long.

Cultivation

The hardness of oakwood makes it very difficult for borers, powdery mildew, and the elements such as ice and wind. Anthracnoseoak wiltscale insects, plant galls, and leaf miners pose potential threats to oaks, but you can prevent against this insect damage that can cause wilt to the foliage by pruning your oak in the dormant season. This tree is commonly planted next to roadways, sidewalks, and in parks as it is large yet narrow.

Biodiversity Sustained

Small mammals and birds can both live in this tree and get food from the acorns that it produces. The life span of the tree is also rather long, providing these resources for years and years to come for many different generations of animals.
