Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry

Amelanchier x grandiflora

Overview

The Autumn Brilliance serviceberry is a small four-season tree that is around 20 to 25 feet tall. It grows at a moderate rate and is a hybrid between Downy serviceberry and Allegheny serviceberry. It is native to North America and has white flowers in the spring, blue-green leaves that turn red in the fall, blue-black edible berries, and smooth silver-gray bark. These leaves are all simple 2-inch long elliptical leaves that fall of come winter. 

Cultivation

The Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry tree prefers acidic soil but can tolerate alkali soil, thriving in full to partial sun within moist, well-drained, rich soil. The tree experiences drought stress in dry environments and is susceptible to cedar rusts and leaf spots. 

Biodiversity Sustained

This small tree provides enough foliage an food to support primarily birds, but usually not any other species of animal.
