Panopto Timeline
Week of March 11th
Panopto will be enabled for faculty to use when creating course content and assignments, and for Staff who need to create content that will be used beyond Summer 2024.
Please note this will turn on a Panopto course navigation menu link in all current courses in Canvas, which can be disabled by following these instructions from Canvas: How do I manage Course Navigation links? > Hide Navigation Links
Faculty: Disable the Panopto course navigation menu link in Canvas in current courses if desired. Current and early summer courses: Review content in VidGrid that will be used before the end of June and ensure it will not be weeded on March 25th. Explore Panopto if you have a need to create new content prior to Fall semester. Review training materials. Decide if you need to attend live training or receive additional support. March 14th - 20th
March 22nd
Canvas shells are loaded for Summer courses.
Faculty: Begin creating content for summer courses using your course shell.
March 25th
- Employees will no longer be able to record or upload new content into VidGrid, including content created via Zoom.
- Existing VidGrid content and student assignments will function as usual.
- Weeding will be applied to VidGrid content, but weeded content will be recoverable until July. Restoring weeded content may take 2 or more business days, and will depend on the number of requests and the order your request is received.
- Content will begin migrating from VidGrid to Panopto.
Faculty & Staff: Review current courses and webpages for any content that no longer works. If you find an issue, request assistance to have the content restored before July. Create or upload any new content directly into Panopto.
June 2024
Approximate date that content converted from VidGrid to Panopto will begin to be available. Users who elected to maintain their folder organization from VidGrid will experience a delay. Training will be offered to support replacing VidGrid content with Panopto content.
Faculty: Begin to add quizzes back onto migrated videos. Staff: Begin replacing VidGrid links and embeds on public webpages, Sharepoint, etc. with Panopto. July-August 2024
Proposed date range where Canvas courses with converted video brought from VidGrid will automatically be updated to use the Panopto video.
Faculty: Update assignments to use Panopto rather than VidGrid. Updated Student Support will be available in Canvas Commons to import into your course and customize.August 15 2024
We have finished processing VidGrid link and embed replacement on the majority of Fall 2024 Canvas courses and are currently processing updates on Spring 2024 back to Spring 2021 courses. 254 Fall 2024 courses were not successfully updated in the initial pass performed 8/13, and those will be re-processed as soon as possible. Summer 2024 courses will be updated after they have concluded.
Faculty: If there is a Canvas course that falls outside the date range of Spring 2021-Fall 2024, or has Default Term (for example most Sandbox courses) please submit a course update request before September.Update assignments to use Panopto rather than VidGrid. Updated Student Support will be available in Canvas Commons to import into your course and customize.
October 6 2024
Starting 10/7 we will update remaining VidGrid embedded and linked videos in all published Summer 2024 Canvas courses and any courses that faculty have manually requested.
Faculty: Review any courses other than Summer 2024 where you have linked or embedded VidGrid content and would like to have it updated to Panopto. If there is still VidGrid content in the course submit the VidGrid Course Update Request Form before 10/7.
November 2024
VidGrid video content, quizzes, and assignments will stop functioning. It may not be possible to restore or locate content after VidGrid is disabled.
Faculty: Finished reviewing courses with automatically replaced VidGrid content to confirm the Panopto version is available. Staff: Finished reviewing and replacing all VidGrid content on webpages, training materials, or elsewhere with a Panopto link or embed.
