Financial Resources

Students in need of advice or support on financial, food, and housing insecurities are encouraged to contact Care Management Services. Below, we have summarized some of the most common resources available to students at Xavier:

  • FINANCIAL RESOURCES
    • These are some of the resources available for student financial assistance, for more information on additional resources please visit the Office of Student Financial Assistanceat Schott Hall, 1st Floor.
  • STUDENT EMERGENCY FUNDS
    • The Student Emergency Fund provides limited emergency financial assistance to currently enrolled Xavier University students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an unexpected situation. The fund is designated to offset a short-term financial need and is not intended to replace or supplement financial aid. Funds are awarded as a grant, and unlike a loan, do not need to be repaid. Funds may count as income and may be subject to federal and/or state taxes.

    • To request Student Emergency Funds, complete the application form.
  • FRIEDLANDER FUND
    • The Friedlander Family Fund was created to reduce financial barriers for students, allowing them to be involved in collegiate engagement opportunities. Examples of involvement opportunities supported by this fund include, but are not limited to, retreats, campus programs, events, or conferences with participation costs/fees.

  • FOOD RESOURCES
    • The Store is the on-campus pantry, located in near The Village, is available for all students in need of food and necessities. Simply stop by during store hours, Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m, or email us thestore@xavier.edu to make arrangements or answer questions.
    • Free Store Food Bank: There are several locations available close to campus ranging from a 5 to 15-minute drive.

      • Individuals and families living in Hamilton County can get food based on the size of the house (in lbs) hold every 30 days. Based on experience, it is easiest to visit the Market and to do so in the morning-the the earlier the better. Individuals typically walk away with food that day. Registration is fairly simple, an ID is required and an address in Hamilton County. Student’s campus address is acceptable. After answering a few questions, the individual goes back to the pantry and can get food. If the person would like referrals to other social service agencies at this time, the staff can assist them (ask if they would like referrals for SNAP, etc.)

  • Shelterhouse Cincinnati
    • David & Rebecca Baron Center for Men (18+) 150 Beds, 3 meals, case management support services
    • Esther Marie Hatton Center for Women (18+) 60 beds, 3 meals, case management support services
    • No criteria for an individual to access resources (shelter, food, clothing)
    • Shelter accepts walk-ins
    • Drop-in shelter
    • Goal: For men and women to transition into permanent housing within 30 days and an increase in income
  • Tender Mercies
    • Multiple locations providing both on/off 24 hour care
    • 24-Hour Care Locations: Haven Hall, Dana Hotel, Harkavy Hall, Transitional Housing
    • No 24 Hour Care: Race Street Residence, New Morning House
    • All require $50 security deposit
    • Provided at least 1 meal a day: Resources (food pantry/soup kitchen) info given; Donated items also available within the house
  • Lighthouse Youth Services
    • Open M-F (9am-2pm)
    • Provides basic needs: food, toiletries, a shower and laundry facilities
    • Lunch served daily
    • Registered nurse able to provide basic health care & first aid
    • Coordinator available for resources: employment, substance abuse services, housing, mental health services
