1098-T Information
Here are the steps a student can take to access their 1098-T.
- Go to the Student Hub at www.xavier.edu/students
- Click on the Self-Service icon and login
- Click on Student Services
- Click on Billing and Payments/Bursar Information
- Click on 1098T Tax Notification then enter the tax year
Please keep in mind that most of the confusion surrounding the actual amounts listed on the 1098-T is the result of combining the calendar year with the academic year. They are two separate years in the eyes of the IRS.
1098-T reporting is different for the 2018 tax year than in the past based on important IRS regulatory changes that have taken place. For 2018 (January - December), IRS regulations require Xavier (and all universities) to report "Payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses" (QTRE) in Box 1 on the 1098-T tax form. Box 2, which reports "Amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses" is no longer permitted by the IRS. Box 5 on the 1098-T tax form will continue to reflect "Scholarships or Grants".
Xavier University cannot offer tax advice. For further assistance, please contact your tax professional or the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. You can also visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov and refer to IRS Publication 970 and Instructions for Forms 1098-E and 1098-T.
