Broadway Beginners: Ages 4-6

Dates: June 9-13

Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Cost: $320

Join in the creative fun and develop your inner actor by engaging in dramatic play! Creative movement techniques designed to encourage body connectivity and alignment are an effective way to organize the central nervous system and achieve important movement milestones in childhood development. Using music and nursery rhymes along with basic theater fundamentals helps young students explore their imagination and unlock creativity.

Parents will be invited to attend a “Sharing Time” at 11:30am on the final day of camp (June 13)

Rebecca Childs

Rebecca Childs received her Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees from Miami University. A proponent of lifelong learning, she has pursued postgraduate study at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, University of New Orleans, University of Memphis, Nicholls State University and the University of Dayton.

As a teacher, Childs has taught music to all levels from preschool to university, in private and public schools and colleges in six states. She is currently teaching voice lessons at CCM and teaches voice to Musical Theatre students at Xavier University. She also has taught Music Theory and Sight Singing for the Musical Theatre majors at CCM. In 2017, she was honored for her teaching as the Outstanding Arts Educator by the Cincinnati Arts Association and Overture Awards. In 2018, she was thrilled to join a group of CCM colleagues teaching a Musical Theatre Workshop in Beijing, China.

While Childs has done some stage work, (favorite role -Adelaide in Guys and Dolls), her primary theatrical involvement has been as an accompanist, vocal coach and music director for school, community theatre and professional productions. Local music directing credits include CCM Drama, Miami University, University of Dayton, Xavier University, LaComedia Dinner Theatre, the Carnegie, Mad Anthony Theatre Company and the Fitton Center for Creative Arts. For 20 years, she served as music director of A Christmas Carol at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

Karie-Lee Sutherland

Karie-Lee Sutherland has worked professionally as a director, choreographer, actor and writer for over 20 years. She toured the world as a singer/dancer for the DOD-USO and is a veteran of live shows at Kings Island. She has also worked for Kings Productions where she wrote and directed touring shows for Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, and the Flintstones. She was a Broadcast Major at CCM and has received several Orchid Awards, State Octafest Award for Choreography, and was nominated for a Daytony “Dance of the Decade” for her performance as Morticia in LaComedia Dinner Theatre’s production of the Addams Family. Karie-Lee has worked with many schools, and theatre companies in the Cincinnati area including Covedale Center for the Performing Arts, Showboat Majestic, LaComedia Dinner Theatre, and Educational Outreach Shows for Playhouse in the Park. Favorite regional acting roles include Ariel in Grumpy Old Men, Rona Lisa in Putnam CountySpelling Bee, and Miss Shingle in Gentlemen’s Guide. She has attended the Broadway Teachers’ Workshop in NYC where she took classes in dance, actors’ movement, and directing with instructors from the Broadway Productions of Newsies, War Horse, and Tony Award winning director John Rando.
