Orientation Team Hiring Process
- There will be two separate interview processes for first-time OT applicants and returning applicants.
- For returner applicants: Interviews will be conducted in a group format that is approximately 45 minutes long. There will be up to 24 applicants per interview participating in activities with a small group of 8. Interviews will be evaluated by current core members, graduating orientation team members, and/or Xavier staff members.
- Arrive to Gallagher 270 at least 10 minutes before your interview to check-in
- Mix of 1x1 getting to know you activities, as well as a few Manresa scenario questions. Example: A student in your group is experiencing homesickness, what campus resources would you inform them about to support them?
- For first-time applicants: An individual interview will be conducted with current core members, graduating orientation team members, and/or Xavier staff members and will be approximately 15 minutes long.
- Arrive to Gallagher 270 at least 10 minutes before your interview time to check-in
- Mix of general interview questions (about yourself, skills, experiences, what you hope to gain etc), as well as a few Manresa scenario questions
- Example: You have a first year who has not shown up to small groups. How would you handle the situation?
- Business casual is what is expected for both interviews
- Display a positive attitude towards serving a role on the Orientation Team.
- Indicate that you have reflected on the role & skills or insight that you would bring.
- Demonstrate lessons learned and areas of growth in previous positions you have held as well as what you hope to learn and where you hope to grow with an Orientation Team role.
- For Manresa scenario questions, we hope to see your thought process, understanding of resources, and ability to be a role model.
- Demonstrate empathy, understanding and provide suggestions on how to help create an inclusive program.
- Provide clear responses and specific examples in questions.
- Reliable, dedicated, knowledgeable, respectful, empathetic, communication, critical thinking, conflict management and ability to be a positive role model.
- Shows a strong commitment to the Orientation Program
- Shows strong teamwork and leadership skills
- Have an open mind and positive attitude
- Passion for furthering Xavier's values and creating an inclusive community
- Be in good standing with the University
- Not on University or residence life probation
- Any previous conduct sanctions are complete
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
