Virtual Student Employment Fair

Virtual Student Employment Fair - July 15, 2024 - July 26, 2024

This fair is the first opportunity that incoming first year students will have to view and apply for positions on-campus.   Most positions will be restricted to first year students with federal work study, however, some positions will be open to all students.    

Through this virtual fair, students will have an opportunity to log into Handshake, Xavier’s Job and Internship resource, to view and apply for Fall 2024 on-campus positions and off-campus Community Service Job Program (CSJP)** positions.

How the Virtual Fair Will Work:

  • Positions will be posted by Monday, July 15, 2024.
  • Students will log into Handshake between Monday, July 15, 2024 and Friday, July 26, 2024 to search and apply for posted positions. (see Search and Apply instructions below)
  • Employers will review student applicant information and will contact applicants they are interested in considering for their position.   
  • If hired, you will be required to complete new hire paperwork prior to starting work. You will need to bring to campus government acceptable original ID to complete this paperwork.  Most students bring either a Passport OR a Driver's License AND a Social Security Card.  View the details!

Prepare for the Virtual Fair:

  • Complete a Student Work Availability Form. Many Xavier employers will require you to provide your class schedule and work availability.  If you know what your schedule will be for the upcoming Fall Semester, you can easily fill out this form and upload* it as a pdf file to Handshake to have it ready to submit when you apply for positions.  Complete the Student Work Availability Form.

  • Prepare a cover letter. Some employers will require a cover letter to be included as part of the application process.  Even if it’s not required, a cover letter can highlight your interest in the position and why you may be a good fit for the position.  To get started on composing a cover letter Sample resumes and cover letters.   Upload* it as a pdf file to Handshake. 
  • Have your resume and/or cover letter reviewed by a Xavier Career Coach. 
    Once you have prepared at least a draft of your resume and/or cover letter, upload it to Handshake and a Xavier Career Coach will review your document(s) and they will send you helpful feedback.  To do this, 
  1. Activate your Handshake profile, if you haven’t already done so, by logging into Handshake with your Xavier login and password.

  2. Upload your resume as a pdf file to Handshake
    1. It's best to upload documents saved as pdfs to maintain formatting.
    2. Make sure you set your document(s) as visible. If it is not visible, the Career Coaching team will not be able to review them.

Search and Apply for Positions:
(Between Monday, July 15, 2024 and Friday, July 26, 2024)

  • Complete " Prepare for the Virtual Fair" steps above first.
  • Log into Handshake with your Xavier Username and Password
  • Set up your profile, if you haven't already done so.
  • From your home page,
    • Click on "Jobs"
    • In the Job Search screen, click on the "On-Campus" filter
    • From the list of positions on the left, click on the Job Posting you are interested in
    • Review the Job Posting description and qualifications shown on the right
    • If you are qualified for and interested in the position, click "Apply", you will be asked to upload the required documents (resume, work availability form, etc.)
    • If you are unable to apply, you may be restricted based on specific criteria and restrictions to that job posting. If you feel this is in error or you need clarification, please contact Student Employment at claryv@xavier.edu or call (513) 745-4880.
