Safety at Xavier

E-Scooter Safety

Xavier University supports alternative mobility options to serve the needs of our campus community. As such, the use of electric scooters (e-scooters) on and around the campus of XU are permitted as a means of shared, active transportation. The XU campus is primarily a pedestrian environment and pedestrians maintain the right-of-way.

The safety of our campus community is a top priority. Vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians should be aware of the increasing scooter traffic on campus. These guidelines are provided to encourage safe practices when choosing to operate an electric scooter.

Safety

  • All e-scooter operators must be 18 years of age or older
  • E-scooter operators are required to follow the rules of the road, please remember pedestrians have the right of way.

  • Wearing a helmet while operating an e-scooter is recommended

Parking

  • Be mindful of where the scooter is parked. We want to ensure that campus pathways remain accessible and safe for the entire university community.
  • Park scooters next to a bike rack
  • Scooters may not be parked in pedestrian pathways, vehicle parking spaces (including ADA), on ADA ramps, stairwells, inside buildings, doorways or other areas where they block entrances or exits.
