Undergraduate mathematics research at Xavier unfolds through the senior project experience. The goal of the senior project is to stretch the student's mind beyond their mathematical horizon and provide them an opportunity to explore the deep world of mathematics in an environment where they are personally motivated by their own curiosity and individually mentored by our faculty.
Thus, the senior project provides students with a glimpse of how professional mathematicians employ their ideas to construct new theories and use mathematical tools, so they can master some difficult problem or build up their expertise in some corner of mathematics and then communicate what they learn to a wider audience.
