International Students Programming
International Student Orientation
International Student Orientation is mandatory for ALL exchange students, graduates, undergraduates, transfers, and sponsored students whether you are arriving in the United States for the first time or you are transferring from another U.S. school. We are required by US government regulations to check in all new F-1 and J-1 visa holders, so attendance at this function is mandatory.
At the orientation, we will provide you with important information about campus, health and insurance requirements, and other matters pertaining to your status as an international student in the United States. In addition, students will be able to participate in some optional activities which will provide them with an introduction to Xavier and the broader community.
Career Development Programming for International Students
There are many different forms of employment international students can seek throughout their time as a student at Xavier. The Center for International Education and Career Development offers a variety of workshops to discuss employment eligibility, Curricular Practical Training (CPT), and Optional Practical Training (OPT) for after your studies. There are also a variety of events leading up to the Career Fairs in the fall and spring that are specific for international students to prepare and network.
Cultural Adjustment Workshop
The Center for International Education offers a Cultural Adjustment Workshop each fall. This program invites new students to talk with other students who have also lived abroad and understand the unique challenges of living in a different culture.
The Journey Home
This workshop and interactive website is to allow graduating students to reflect on their time in the United States and prepare for the experience of moving back home after their time at Xavier. The Journey Home website
Citizens of the World (CoW) Student Organization
The student organization, Citizens of the World, is closely connected to the Center for International Education. This group is dedicated to providing the Xavier community with the opportunity to discover the diverse cultures which exist at Xavier University. Also, CoW is dedicated to helping international students adapt to American culture through different kinds of activities, where domestic and international students can have an enriching and satisfying experience. Xavier students are encouraged to join and enjoy CoW where they will have the opportunity to meet students from all over the world and participate in various academic, social, service, and fundraising activities. CoW is open to all those interested in the cultures, languages, and traditions of other countries. Connect with them on EngageXU!
