Accessibility Training For Canvas

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Accessibility Training for Canvas is a self-paced, asynchronous course designed to show Xavier instructors how to make their course content accessible — i.e., viewable and actionable by all students, including students with disabilities. Accessibility is regulated by civil rights laws, requiring all course-related content and activities to be equally available to all students. Instructors are responsible for the accessibility of their course content.

The training course currently contains two instructional modules. The first module is titled "Accessibility Basics in Canvas," and its topics include how to use the Canvas Rich Content Editor and Ally, Xavier's course accessibility tool. At the end of the module, participants complete the Ally Instructor Feedback Activity. The second module is titled "Accessible Videos in Canvas," and its topics include captions and best practices for visuals and audio. At the end of the module, participants complete the Requesting Captions Activity and the Editing Captions Activity.

Additional instructional modules are planned. As these are added, participants may complete them to expand their accessibility knowledge and skills.
