Weather and Other Emergency Conditions Protocols

Listed below are the basic categories that might adapt Xavier's working and teaching approaches due to serious inclement weather and/or emergency conditions. Employees will be contacted through Xavier's XU Alert Me system. Employees should ensure that their communication methods, including cell phone numbers, are updated in the XU Alert Me system.

UNIVERSITY CLOSED

Classes will not be held and University offices will be closed. University employees are not expected to report to campus unless specifically contacted by their supervisor to report for emergency operations. It is expected that the use of this category will be rare.

CLASSES AND UNIVERSITY OFFICES ON DELAYED START

On such days, classes before a defined time may be either synchronous or asynchronous, depending on the pedagogical requirements of the course, with in-person classes beginning at a certain time. Faculty are urged to communicate with students as soon as possible their plan for alternative learning. 

University offices will not open until the specific time. Employees are not required to report to campus prior to the announced start time. Staff will be able to work remotely to the best of their ability. Emergency essential personnel should still report as scheduled.

On such days, faculty and staff are not required to report to campus. Classes may be either synchronous or asynchronous, depending on the pedagogical requirements of the course.
