Academic Expectations

Below, you will find the mean GPAs for those entering graduate-level professional health progams.  Please note: It's important to review the admission requirements page of any medical school or other graduate professional health program for their own specific academic requirements.

Medical School (MD or DO) and the MCAT

  • The mean GPAs of MD matriculants are 3.70/3.64 (overall/science) and the mean GPAs of DO matriculants are 3.52/3.45 (overall/science). The mean MCATs are 510 and 503 for MD and DO respectively.

Pharmacy School (PharmD) and the PCAT

  • The mean GPA of Pharmacy matriculants is 3.57/3.23 (overall/science) and the mean PCAT is 70.

Physician Associate/Assistant (MPAS) School and the GRE (if required)

  • The mean GPA of PA matriculants is 3.53/3.48 (overall/science) and GRE score of > 300 (150 verbal, 150 quantitative) and a 4 or higher on the writing section is competitive.

Dental School (DDS or DMD) and the DAT

  • The mean GPA of Dental matriculants is 3.55/3.47 (overall/science) and the mean DAT is 20 (new score as of 2025 is 430-450 minimum on a 200-600 range).

 Veterinary School (DVM) and the GRE

  • The mean GPA of Vet matriculants is 3.56 and a GRE score of > 300 (150 verbal, 150 quantitative) and a 4 or higher on the writing section is competitive.

Occupational Therapy (OTD) School and the GRE (if required)

  • The mean GPA of OT matriculants is 3.20 overall and a GRE score of > 300 (150 verbal, 150 quantitative) and a 4 or higher on the writing section is competitive.

Physical Therapy (DPT) School and the GRE

  • The mean GPA of PT matriculants is 3.59/3.43 (overall/science) and a GRE score of > 300 (150 verbal, 150 quantitative) and a 4 or higher on the writing section is competitive.

Chiropractic School (DC)

  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher is competitive for most schools. Some schools may require the GRE.

Optometry School (OD) and the OAT

  • The mean GPA of Optometry matriculants is 3.43 overall and OAT scores of > 330 are competitive.

  • The mean GPA of Podiatry matriculants is 3.50/3.20 (overall/science) and the mean MCAT score is 494.
