The Write Path
The Write Path, produced each summer by the Xavier Writing Program, is the required reader for all first-year writing courses. Each year, students in ENGL 101 and 115 submit their best written essays and multimodal compositions for consideration in the D’Artagnan Award contest. These works are scored by instructors who teach first-year writing and the essays with the highest scores are included in the following year’s The Write Path. This required text is designed to help incoming writers at Xavier adapt to college writing and receive advice from their peers about writing successfully in their classes.
In addition to providing student writers with exemplary models of the type of writing they will encounter in their first-year writing classes, The Write Path also orients students to writing in college, specifically at Xavier. The front matter of the book provides important information about rhetorical terms, the difference between college-level and high school writing, resources on campus to support their learning, and other valuable tools for success in their classes. All first-year writing students are encouraged to submit their best work from their ENGL 101 and 115 classes to the [student-awards/the-dartagan-award] D’Artagnan Award contest for consideration in the following year’s edition of The Write Path.
