Learning Goals

The Economics Department at Xavier has developed the following learning goals for the Economics major.

  • (SLO 1) Students can describe decisions made by economic agents, analyze interactions among agents in a market, and identify when markets fail to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • (SLO 2) Students can describe macroeconomic indicators and trends in the macro economy, as well as use basic models to analyze macroeconomic policy.
  • (SLO 3) Students can describe economic data, formulate hypotheses, and analyze patterns in the data to test those hypotheses.
  • (SLO 4) Students can write a professional report that includes a description and analysis of economic concepts, an evaluation of the economic analysis, and recommendations for improvement.
  • (SLO 5) Students can deliver a professional presentation that includes a description and analysis of economic concepts, an evaluation of the economic analysis, and recommendations for improvement.
