Schedule & Session Descriptions

9:00-9:40            Class Structures to Minimize Anxiety

(Supaporn Kradtap Hartwell, CTE Faculty Director)

In this session, we will discuss different evidence-based instructional strategies, class plans, and specific classroom interventions, that may be employed to promote students’ self-efficacy and minimize student stress and anxiety. Faculty will have a chance to reflect on their own teaching practice, class structure, and class management, to identify points that could be improved to better support student learning.  Some small changes in teaching strategies and course structure may allow students, especially those with high stress and anxiety, more opportunities to succeed in class.

9:50-10:30          Relationship Rich Classroom

(Eric Bucher, CTE Faculty Director)

Human relationships are the engine that drives our classrooms. But creating these relationships is challenging. We will explore tactics and strategies for building impactful lasting relationships between faculty and students, as well as student-to-student relationships. Faculty will reflect on initial steps that can be taken to turn their classroom into a welcoming, inclusive community which gives every student the opportunity to succeed. This workshop is a great starting point for anyone involved in, or interested in, taking part in the Persistence Project.
