2010 Faculty in Residence

Dr. E. Paul Colella, Professor of Philosophy
and director of the Philosophy, Politics and the Public honors program.

Professor Colella opened five session of his Fall 2010 course, Freud and Philosophy, to faculty observers.
He also offered a series of four lectures on Sigmund Freud for Xavier University staff members.

The Faculty in residence program offers both faculty observation of class meetings and a series of staff lectures on parallel topics.

Dr. E. Paul Colella has been a member of Xavier University's Department of Philosophy since 1979. Jesuit-educated since secondary school, Dr. Colella earned his B.A. from Boston College and his Ph.D. from Fordham University. Since coming to Xavier, he has served as Chair of the Philosophy Department, Director The University Scholars Honors Program, and he currently directs the Philosophy, Politics and the Public honors program.

A past winner of the Bishop Fenwick Award for Excellence in Teaching, he teaches courses that serve the undergraduate philosophy core, often in block format with Dr. Korros of the History Department, and routinely offers elective courses on Giambattista Vico and William James.

He has published articles dealing with Classical American pragmatism, Italian pragmatism, as well as political philosophy.

Dr. Colella founded both the Xavier Summer Program in Rome and the Summer Program in London, and he leads the Summer Rome Program each year.
