Be a Goa Instructor
Want to make a difference for Xavier?
You should be a GOA instructor! Here's why ...
1. You care about students:
"GOA is a wonderful opportunity to be an additional touch point in the success of our first-year students. As a staff member who works in a non-academic office, it provides an additional opportunity for me to engage with a broad spectrum of students I may not have had the opportunity to meet."
- Audrey Calloway, Senior Designer, Marketing and Communications
2. Xavier students can use your help:
"This course taught me that I am not alone, nor am I going through any situation alone. It is a good feeling knowing that Xavier cares about each individual at this university." - GOA student
"My most significant takeaway from this course is that Xavier is a community that cares about each
3. You recognize the importance of the work:
"As you know, the students are at the heart of everything we do. The time you take to prepare and teach your classes and the time you give to our first-year students inside and outside of the
4. You have lots of support, and you can do it!
- Classes meet six times at the beginning of the fall and spring semester.
- Lesson plans, PowerPoints
and course materials are provided for you. - Resources and small groups of current instructors are available for support.
- Training is provided for all of the content you'll be teaching, to help you feel more comfortable. And no matter the content, students really connect with their instructors; the average GOA instructor score on evaluations is 4.54 out of 5!
- Most instructors estimate about 3-5 hours of work per week for GOA, including teaching, prep time and reading/answering emails. You will be provided with a stipend for your time. For exempt staff, the stipend is $800 for the year ($400 each semester). For non-exempt staff, pay is $11/hour ($16.50/hour overtime rate).
Instructors come from offices all across the university - not just the offices that work directly with students. You can make an impact no matter where you work. Join the team and help us welcome our next class of first-year students to Xavier.
