Writing Minor

Writing is a necessity.

Writing to be powerful and effective is an art to learn. The writing minor is a collaboration between the Communication and English departments. Through these classes, each student will be able to improve their writing, reading and comprehensive skills in order to apply them in the communication to large masses or targeted audiences. The minor explores all realms of writing, including poetry, branding, fiction, autobiographies, journals.

Requirements:

To fulfill the Writing Minor, students must complete:

  • COMM 206: Writing for the Media
  • ENGL 115: Rhetorical Analysis or ENGL 101: Composition

And four courses chosen from the following:

  • COMM 237: Elements of Copy and Design
  • COMM 250: Screenwriting and Story Craft
  • COMM 371: Public Relations Writing
  • ENGL 304: Teaching and Research in Writing
  • ENGL 307: Writing Internship
  • ENGL 309: Creative Writing - Poetry
  • ENGL 310: Creative Writing - Fiction
  • ENGL 314: Writing Journals and Autobiography
  • ENGL 315: Composition Tutoring
  • ENGL 318: Creative Nonfiction
  • ENGL 319: Writing as Social Action
  • ENGL 337: Theories in Research and Writing
  • ENGL 339: Digital Writing
  • Communication Internship I (with a writing emphasis, as approved by the Comm. internship director)
