Roberta Whitely
Coordinator, Catholic Liturgy and Music, Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice
Roberta Whitely serves Xavier University as the Coordinator for Liturgy and Music at the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Ministry. She has been involved in liturgical ministry for over 30 years, and has devoted her lifetime career to training liturgical musicians, cantors, and leading choirs. Originally a concert pianist, Roberta has performed concerts across the United Stated and Europe. During her graduate studies at Indiana University, Roberta developed a passion for chamber music and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She then served CIM for a period of twelve years as a full-time Staff Pianist. Her experience with vocalists at CIM led to an opportunity to serve as the Director for Lake Erie College’s Community Chorus and Professor of Piano, while continuing to serve at her local church and CIM. As Coordinator for Liturgy and Music at Xavier, Roberta has enjoyed deepening her own faith life while sharing those insights with the students she works with. She continues to be active as a collaborative pianist, serving mostly doctoral students at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and a few vocal students at Xavier University.
