Embracing thankfulness
November 21, 2024
As the year draws to a close, it is natural to reflect on the events, lessons, and moments that have shaped our lives. This year has undoubtedly brought its share of challenges, whether personal, professional, or global. Our university and our college are navigating significant changes, and while change can be daunting, it also brings opportunities for growth.
Yet, there is always something for us to be thankful for.
Gratitude can help us reflect on the positive aspects of our lives, whether they are grand achievements or small, everyday blessings. In keeping our focus on the good, we can continue to cultivate a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity.
We can be thankful for the opportunities we have had to learn and grow. Here at Xavier these opportunities abound. Each day presents a fresh chance to learn something new from the situations in which we find ourselves. We gain insights from both our colleagues and our students.
Thankfulness can allow us to find meaning in challenges. Thankfulness can help us appreciate our relationships. Thankfulness can help us recognize the small joys in our lives, such as a meal with friends and family, a kind word from a stranger, or time with our loved ones. Thankfulness can help us to celebrate and carry hope into the year ahead.
I am immensely thankful for each of you. The work that you do is extraordinary. During these last few busy weeks of the semester, I hope that you can find some time to reflect on the little joys.
I wish you all very happy Thanksgiving.
