Registration Assistance
First-Time Students
If you are a new student to Xavier University, please be sure to check your Xavier email regularly. You will need to complete your Academic Profile, Mathematics Placement, and Second Language Placement in Road to Xavier to be considered advising-ready.
CREATING YOUR ACADEMIC PROFILE
What is an academic profile? - Your academic profile allows you to share important information about yourself and your academic history that will be helpful in building your schedule for the fall semester.
Where do I access my academic profile? – You will complete your academic profile in Road to Xavier. You will need to complete this task before you are considered ready for advising and course registration.
How long will it take me to complete the academic profile? – The academic profile takes approximately ten minutes to complete.
SECOND LANGUAGE PLACEMENT
What is placement testing? – To ensure you are placed into the courses you need and are ready for, you will need to complete placement exams before participating in advising and course registration.
Language Placement – All Xavier students are required to demonstrate a 201-level of competency (or higher) in a second language. The language placement exam, which takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, will determine what language courses you need.
MATHEMATICS PLACEMENT
The mathematics courses you will need to take at Xavier are determined by your major. To ensure you begin with the correct level, we can use standardized test scores or a mathematics placement exam.
Students that have submitted AP Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, ACT or SAT test scores can use this information in lieu of completing a mathematics placement exam. Even if you have submitted test scores, you still have the option to complete a placement exam through ALEKS. The allotted time to complete the exam is 70 minutes.
Students that have not submitted ACT or SAT test scores will complete a placement exam through ALEKS.
SUMMER ADVISING AND REGISTRATION PROCESS
After you have completed your academic profile and placement tests in Road to Xavier, you will be ready to participate in advising and registration. A Xavier staff or faculty member will draft a schedule and meet with you. You will receive an invitation in your Xavier email to sign up for an advising and registration appointment.
What happens during advising appointment? – You will meet with an academic advisor to discuss the classes you need to take, the core curriculum, and review any other onboarding tasks you need to complete. Your advisor will show you how to use tools like DegreeWorks (a planning tool that helps ensure you are on track to complete your degree) and the course registration system.
How do I register for courses? – As a first-year student, you will be pre-registered for classes based on your major and the recommendation from your academic department. During your advising appointment, you will review your classes and work with your advisor to add one additional class to your schedule. This allows you to get a better understanding of how the registration system works.
How do I prepare for my advising appointment? – You will want to make sure you have your Xavier username and password. You will need this information to log into the registration system. After your advising appointment, if you have questions or need to make changes to your schedule due to placement scores, etc., you will need to contact your Success Coach.
When do I meet with my Success Coach? – For some students, your academic advisor is also your success coach. This means you would have your initial success coaching meeting at the same time as your advising appointment. However, if your academic advisor is not your success coach, you will receive an invitation to schedule your first success coaching appointment in your Xavier email.
What happens during my first success coaching appointment? – The first meeting with your success coach provides an opportunity for you to get to know one another. Your success coach will want to know more about you, your academic goals, any concerns you may have, and how they can best support you during your time at Xavier. Your success coach will also review any other Road to Xavier onboarding steps that you need to complete.
Current Students
If you are a current student at Xavier, you will meet with an academic advisor to determine what courses you should take for the following semester. You will receive a time ticket that tells you the earliest date and time you can register. Success Coaches are available to help students prepare for their advising meetings and to help students navigate the registration process.
Please note, success coaches also serve as academic advisors for students with the following majors:
- Exploratory
- Biology
- Biomedical Sciences
The Office of the Registrar will provide information about academic policies, dates, and deadlines.
Please email your advisor with questions or email careandsupport@xavier.edu and someone will be in touch as soon as possible. Find more resources on the Academic Advising webpage.
