Ms. Kelly Austin Kelly Austin is a Senior Teaching Professor. Kelly has been teaching at Xavier since 1998. Kelly teaches core courses, primarily in writing and literature. She has taught First-Year Seminar, English Composition, Rhetoric, Writing about Texts, Studies in Fiction, Literature & the Moral Imagination, Studies in Women’s Literature, and Teaching & Research in Writing.
Dr. Mack Mariani Mack Mariani, a Buffalo native, is the 2008 and 2018 chicken wing eating champion of Xavier University. He earned his BA at Canisius College (1991) and his MA and PHD at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University (1992, 2006). Mariani directs Xavier's American Founding and Constitution programs, which receive support from the Jack Miller Center for Teaching America's Founding Principles. He serves as an Honored Visiting Graduate Faculty member in the Masters in American History and Government program at the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University. Mariani also serves as the Xavier liaison for the Washington Center for Internships, and coordinator of the political science department's local internship program. Mariani previously served as chair of the political science department and was Founding Director of the Gene Beaupre State Politics Internship Program.
Dr. Wendy Maxian Dr. Maxian teaches classes in public relations, media writing, and advertising. Her primary research interest is media psychology, or understanding how individuals process media messages. In particular, Dr. Maxian is interested in understanding the emotional connections individuals have to the media they use and the content they consume. She manages a psychophysiology lab and is always looking for eager and interested undergraduates to join.
