X-Alt Program

What is X-Alt? 

The Xavier University Alternative

X-ALT is a program that leads lo Ohio teacher licensure for career changing professionals and those who have an earned Bachelor degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Admission

Graduate students.

  • Meet with the Graduate Academic Advisor.
  • Apply for admission to the University.

Using Your Undergraduate Degree

The courses in your undergraduate major may be used to fulfill content requirements for a licensure field. Unconditional admission lo X-ALT requires:

  • An overall and major GPA of 2.7 or higher.
  • A passing score on the state mandated content licensure exam (OAE).

The Licensure Program

Adding the Master of Education Degree 

In most cases, after completion of the requirements for the initial teaching license, an

additional two courses are needed to obtain the Master of Education Degree (M.Ed.). Although the M.Ed. is not a requirement for licensure, it is a step toward being highly qualified. Details are available from the Academic Program Officer.

Advising 

Advisors in the Department of of Secondary and Special Education provide guidance as needed throughout the program.

Additional Licensure Requirements 

Following successful completion of the licensure course sequence, the University will approve you for licensure lo the Stale of Ohio for the 4-year Resident Educator Teaching License.
