The following information is provided to comply with federal regulation 34 § C.F.R. 668.43 and NC-SARA Policy Manual v. 22.1 § 5.2, which require colleges and universities to disclose if programs meet the educational requirements for a government-issued professional license or certification required for employment.
Licensure is Individual
Only licensure boards or agencies can determine whether a program has met requirements. These boards and agencies make that determination after someone graduates or completes the program and applies for a license.
Completing a program is typically only one part of the professional licensure requirements. Most states require that individuals meet additional requirements in order to qualify for licensure, including but not limited to additional coursework and training, supervised clinical experiences, and successful passage of state or national exams. Other licensure requirements typically include, but are not limited to, fees, background checks, years of work experience, references, fingerprinting requirements, etc.
Xavier University cannot guarantee the ability to earn any professional license or certification, in any field, in any state or territory.
Xavier University shall not be held liable if the student is unable to qualify for licensure or certification in any jurisdiction or cannot obtain a practicum/internship location since all situations are unique and requirements may change.
Disclosure of Meeting State Professional Licensure Requirements
According to federal regulation 34 § C.F.R. 668.43, Xavier University must disclose the states that meet educational requirements for licensure for programs customarily leading to licensure. Disclosure requirements pertain to states where students enrolled in those programs are located. Xavier's Student Location Policy determines that, for students enrolled solely in on-ground courses or simultaneously in online and on-ground courses (which require their presence on campus or at Xavier facilities), their location is considered the State of Ohio, where Xavier University is located. For students enrolled solely in online courses, their location is the state or territory where the student is located while receiving instruction.
Currently, all Xavier programs leading to licensure require on-ground courses, and are considered located in the State of Ohio, except:
- MSN Family Nurse Practitioner
- MSN Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The curriculum for programs customarily leading to licensure at Xavier University have been designed to meet the licensure/certification requirements in Ohio as well as preparing students to apply for licensure exams in the State of Ohio. The licensure boards in each state are responsible for establishing the requirements for licensure/certification for their state. Students who intend to return or move to any state other than Ohio need to review the professional licensure disclosures pertaining to their program and consult with the state professional licensing board. The state professional licensing boards make the ultimate decision as to whether or not an individual will be eligible for licensure based on the rules and regulations in place at the time the individual submits their application for licensure.
MS in Accountancy (on ground, located in Ohio)
Combined with a bachelor’s degree providing at least 120 credit hours, the MS in Accountancy meets all the educational requirements for Ohio. Candidates for CPA licensure in Ohio must meet, among other things, certain educational requirements. Those educational requirements include (a) 150 total college credit hours, (b) 30 credit hours of accounting courses, and (c) 24 credit hours of non-accounting business courses.
BSBA in Accounting (on ground, located in Ohio)
The BSBA in Accounting is a pre-licensure program that provides at least 120 total credit hours, 30 credit hours of accounting courses and 24 credit hours of non-accounting business courses. Candidates would need to earn up to 30 additional credit hours to satisfy requirement (a). The BSBA in Accounting meets requirements (b) and (c) for Ohio.
The Williams College of Business at Xavier University is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The BSBA in Accounting and the MS in Accountancy are accredited under the College’s accreditation status. The Department of Accounting is not separately accredited.
Requirements for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license vary by state and involve more than successful degree completion. Candidates for licensure need to satisfy other requirements, including but not limited to completing an application, paying a fee, passing licensure exams, and work experience.

The Xavier University MS in Athletic Training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Individuals who graduate from a CAATE accredited program meet the education requirements for an Athletic Training license in the State of Ohio. In addition, the State of Ohio requires passing the Board of Certification exam, for which the XU MSAT program prepares students. Graduates of Xavier University's athletic training program receive a Master of Science (M.S.) degree and are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC, Inc.) exam. BOC certification is a requirement for licensure in many states; however, it does not guarantee the ability to obtain a license to practice athletic training in all states. Requirements for licensure as an Athletic Trainer vary from state to state, and can include additional state-specific examinations, background checks, citizenship, and fees. The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program (PsyD) meets the educational requirements for licensure for the state of Ohio. In addition, for licensure as a psychologist Ohio requires the EPPP exam and Ohio Board Oral Exam. The Xavier University PsyD program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA). Requirements for licensure as a psychologist vary from state to state, and can include additional examinations (such as the EPPP and a state-specific examination), background checks, additional experience, and fees. State boards evaluate each applicant individually to determine eligibility and make the final determination regarding licensure. The Xavier University MA in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling meet the educational requirements for licensure in the State of Ohio. Both programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Graduates of the School Counseling program and Clinical Mental Health Counseling program receive a Master of Arts degree and are eligible to sit for their respective licensure exam.
Xavier University‘s School Counseling Program is approved by the Ohio Department of Education. Students who successfully complete the program and pass the licensure exam are eligible for a Pupil Services License, as a Licensed School Counselor (LSC) for 5 years. All students must obtain an Ohio license before applying for licensure in another state. Information on licensure requirements vary by state. Xavier University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is approved by the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy Board. Students who successfully complete the program and pass the licensure exam are eligible to practice in the state of Ohio as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Students who are interested in obtaining a license in another state should check with the licensing board in that state to ensure that Xavier meets the educational requirements. Educator preparation programs leading to licensure offered through the School of Education at Xavier University meet the educational requirements for licensure in the State of Ohio. Individuals who complete one of Xavier University’s education licensure programs, complete all academic and testing requirements, and pass criminal background checks, are eligible for the Ohio license.
The School of Education at Xavier University is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Xavier University's undergraduate, graduate, and endorsement educator preparation programs are also approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Students who successfully complete the programs and pass all associated state licensure exams are eligible to be recommended for either a 2-Year Ohio Resident Educator License, 5-year Professional License (for Educational Administration Licenses), or an Endorsement. All students must obtain an Ohio license before applying for licensure in another state. Note that employment, salary, and occupational advancement are not guaranteed.
Requirements, license names, and grade bands, for teacher licensure vary by state and may involve more than successful degree completion. Graduates who apply for licensure may need to satisfy other requirements, such as completing an application, paying a fee, additional coursework, and passing associated state licensure exams.

Xavier University College of Nursing’s BSN and MIDAS programs meet the educational requirements of the State of Ohio. The BSN program is approved by the State of Ohio and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Colleges of Nursing (CCNE). Graduates of the BSN and MIDAS programs meet the requirements to apply for licensure in the State of Ohio.

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Programs (online, student location determines location)

For students enrolled in fully online FNP programs, continued enrollment may be subject to their physical location while taking course(s). Further, they are required to notify Xavier University of any changes to their Local or Home Address, and if they relocate to a state in which Xavier is not authorized or otherwise exempt, their enrollment and/or licensure eligibility may be negatively affected.
Students who are located in states or territories where Xavier does not meet educational requirements for licensure may complete an attestation that they intend to apply for licensure in a state or territory where Xavier does meet educational requirements for licensure. About Nursing Licensure
Licensure in the United States is regulated by individual regulatory bodies known as State Boards of Nursing. These state boards join together in an independent organization known as the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) to act together on areas of common interest including the development of the nursing licensure examinations. Individual state boards of nursing determine requirements for those practicing nursing with in their states. The components of the licensure process include verification of graduation from an approved pre-licensure RN program and verification of successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). Xavier University's OTD program meets educational requirements for an Ohio Occupational Therapy license in the State of Ohio. Graduates of the Program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
Xavier University's entry-level doctorate program is accredited by the American Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®). ACOTE® accredited occupational therapy educational programs satisfy the states’ educational requirements in all states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Students graduating from an ACOTE® accredited occupational therapy educational program are eligible to take the NBCOT certification exam and apply for licensure in all states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
Xavier University's Bachelor of Social Work program meets the educational requirements for licensure in the State of Ohio. Graduates of the program are prepared for taking the licensure exam for becoming a Licensed Social Worker (LSW). The BSW program at Xavier has been continuously accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) for over 35 years. In many states, one of which is Ohio, students graduating with a BSW from an accredited program can take the licensure exam towards becoming a licensed social worker.
