Come Out To Watch the Reds on Xavier Night!

May 21, 2018

When Doug Healy was a teenager looking for a college, there were several things that made Xavier stand out.

"I liked small to mid-size universities that were situated in a high population area," said Healy, who graduated in 1997 with an accounting degree from the Williams College of Business. "When I compared several schools, Xavier ultimately came out on top because of its reputation and the high quality of a Jesuit education."

Healy now serves as the chief financial officer for the Cincinnati Reds. But a career in baseball wasn't always what he wanted to do.

"When I started at Xavier, I wanted to be an FBI agent and was told that an accounting degree was a great major in order to achieve this goal," he says.

But life takes you in different directions, and Healy was hired by the Reds in 2006.

"Baseball is my favorite sport, so when this opportunity arose I jumped to take it," he says.

And his accounting degree helped him land the gig.

"There are a wide variety of career options with an accounting degree," he says. "It is important to understand how numbers, or financials, work and flow. All good executives understand cash management and their respective bottom lines."
