Sep 26, 2023
Xavier University once again ranked among the national leaders for social media performance over the last year, checking in at No. 36 nationally in social media engagement in Rival IQ’s 2023 Higher Education Social Media Engagement report.
The ranking continues a trend of strong digital engagement at the University. Xavier has ranked in the top 45 nationally in seven of the past eight years and in the top 25 in five of those years.
Nationally, Xavier ranked second among Catholic institutions and ninth among private institutions, trailing only TCU, Marquette, Baylor, High Point, Tulane, Samford, Robert Morris and Furman.
The rankings comprise the platforms Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter) and TikTok from 364 NCAA Division I colleges and universities across the nation.
For the 2023 rankings, data was analyzed between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023, and reflects a proprietary formula that blends total audience engagement and engagement rates to eliminate bias towards larger institutions with bigger audience sizes. The best-performing colleges and universities on social media all boast above-average engagement rates, audience sizes, and posting values.
For 2023, @XavierU ranked No. 4 nationally on X, which was the highest-ever ranking for the channel. Xavier University was also No. 98 on Facebook and No. 62 on Instagram. Xavier’s TikTok was ranked No. 164 in just its second year of existence and the second year Rival IQ has tracked the platform.
Xavier boasts a cross-channel audience north of 143,000 and posted over 1,000 times during the date range studied. Those posts generated an estimated 12.3 million digital impressions for the institution.
Amongst its peers in the BIG EAST Conference, Xavier ranked third behind only Marquette and UConn, while ranking first among private institutions in Ohio. Only three public institutions in the state were ranked ahead of XU, including Bowling Green State University, Ohio State University and Ohio University. Crosstown rival Cincinnati finished No. 39 in the rankings, three spots behind Xavier.
