Music Performance Concentration
Students in the Music Performance concentration receive comprehensive training in music theory, aural skills, and keyboard skills, as well as a broad overview of Western music history. Students pursue mastery of a primary instrument through private lessons and ensemble experiences.
Admission to the Music Performance concentration and scholarship consideration is by competitive audition.
Major Requirements (36 hours):
Foundational Training and Musicianship (18 hours):
- MUSC 127 - GarageBand, Logic & More
- MUSC 200, 202, 300 - Music Theory I-III
- MUSC 201, 203, 301, 303 - Aural Skills I-IV
- MUSC 208, 209 - Keyboard Skills I & II
Music History and Literature (6 hours):
- MUSC 210, 211 - Music History I & II
Applied Music/Private Lessons (6 hours):
- MUSC 278-299
Large Ensembles (6 hours) from:
- MUSC 260 - Concert Choir
- MUSC 265 - Symphonic Wind Ensemble
- MUSC 270 - Chamber Orchestra
Additional Requirements:
- Enroll in MUSC 199 - Recital Attendance for 6 semesters
- Pass applied music exam at the end of each semester of private lessons.
- Perform on recital each semester of private lessons.
- Maintain a 2.0 cumulative average in music courses.
- Optional Senior Recital (MUSC 450) during the senior year
