030 Dementia - Creating a Supportive Environment

In this episode we return to the topic of supporting people with dementia through the philosophy of Montessori. Kathy Farfsing joins us again and talks about how to create a supportive home environment through making changes to the physical environment and creating engaging and meaningful activities.

Guest: Kathy Farfsing

Kathy Farfsing has been a Montessori teacher 35 years, is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, and the Director of the Montessori Dementia Program at Xavier University. Kathy spent 10 years as a caregiver for her father who had Alzheimer’s, has trained with masters in the field of applying Montessori methods to dementia care, and has shifted her focus from educating children to improving quality of life for all people living with Alzheimer’s and other neurocognitive disorders.  She has shared this method both nationally and internationally.
