028 Playscapes, what, why and how

In today’s episode we learn about playscapes, what they are, how teachers and parents can support children in using them, and the process one Montessori school used in planning for their new playscape. We also look at the importance of giving children opportunities and freedom to explore nature.

Guest: Donna Hutchinson Smith

Donna Hutchinson-Smyth has been working in the field of Education for more than 25 years.  After years of work with community non-profit organizations promoting education, justice and leadership, Donna completed her Montessori Early Childhood Credential at Xavier University in 2008.   Donna is passionate about many issues of equity, but especially about getting children and adults outside and more in touch with nature and all that is has to offer.  She works to integrate nature and outdoor play into her experiences working with both children and adults.  When not in the classroom Donna can be found exploring Cincinnati parks and mountain biking with her family.
