026 Balancing accountability with trusting the teacher, and AMS accreditation

This episode begins with a discussion of how to balance accountability and the needs of the child. We look at the importance of trusting and advocating for the teacher and the Montessori philosophy. We also talk about the AMS accreditation process, what its like, and the benefits that the process can bring to administrators and teachers.

Guest Krista Taylor

Krista Taylor has recently joined the staff at Mercy Montessori School in the position of vice principal.  Prior to that, she taught for the last nine years at Gamble Montessori High School (Cincinnati Public Schools) where she has been an intervention specialist, team leader, and lead teacher.  Her instructional strategies helped Gamble develop an approach that captures the spirit of Montessori education, and she served on the steering committee for the school's AMS accreditation process. She is also an instructor and field consultant for CMStep, the Cincinnati Montessori Secondary Teacher Education Program.In 2015 she earned regional acclaim when, after being awarded the Hawkins Educator of the Year award for Cincinnati Public Schools, she gave her entire $10,000 winnings to the Gamble Foundation to assist students in attending field experiences.  Her education includes a B.A. in History from Kenyon College;  an M.Ed from Wheelock College, and  Montessori Secondary I and II Credentials from CMSTEP. She has presented at conferences for both the American Montessori Society and the Cincinnati Montessori Society, and has conducted numerous professional development sessions for both traditional and Montessori educators.
