Director, Government Relations
Sean L. Rhiney, Esq. serves as Xavier University’s Government Relations Director (GRD). In that role, he is the principal advisor on government affairs topics of critical importance to the University. Sean also teaches and leads political and community-engagement for undergraduate students in the University Honors’ Philosophy, Politics and the Public (PPP) program, and serves as the University’s Pre-Law Advisor. He earned his BA from Xavier University in Philosophy and his law degree from the Chase College of Law. As a practicing attorney he handled complex litigation and intellectual property matters, and spent eight years at the University of Cincinnati College of Law directing and teaching experiential learning programs and counseling students pursuing careers in federal and state government and public interest law. Prior to serving in the GRD role, Sean was the Director of Xavier’s Eigel Center for Community-Engaged Learning, where he collaborated with the broader community to facilitate student curricular learning, University and civic partnerships, and community well-being. He is a former managing editor of Soapbox Cincinnati and his civic engagement has included serving on the steering committee of the Beacon of Hope Business Alliance, Chair of Evanston Academy's LSDMC, Greater Cincinnati Urban League Board of Advisors, and the board of Mortar, a nonprofit that works with under-served entrepreneurs and businesses in Cincinnati.
