Hasan Faruq, Ph.D.

Professor, Economics

Born and raised in Bangladesh, Hasan Faruq received his BA in Economics from Bard College, and MA and PhD in Economics from Indiana University respectively. He has been teaching at Xavier since 2007. During the 2017-18 academic year, he was a Visiting Faculty the City College of New York. Hasan has recently served as the Chair of the Economics Department.

Hasan primarily teaches courses in international economics, international business and development economics at the undergraduate level and international economics, international business and managerial economics at the MBA level. He received several awards for his teaching, including the "Undergraduate Professor of the Year", the "Graduate Business Professor of the Year" and the "Executive MBA Professor of the Year" awards from the Williams College of Business.

Hasan’s research interests broadly lie in the areas of social and political institutions, international trade/globalization and economic development. His scholarly work appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Applied Economics, Journal of Development Studies, Manchester School and Review of Development Economics. Hasan has also published several articles with undergraduates at Xavier.
