Dr. Kimberly Farley-Smith

Teaching Professor, Department of Counseling

Dr. Kimberly L. Farley-Smith (she/her/hers) is a Licensed School Counselor (LSC) and joined Xavier University in the fall of 2024 as a Teaching Professor in the Department of Counseling, specializing in School Counseling. Dr. Farley-Smith holds two bachelor's degrees in Adolescent Education and English from The University of Toledo. She earned her master's degree in School Leadership and Administration from West Virginia University and a Master's in School Counseling from Xavier University. In 2024, she completed her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at The University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Farley-Smith began her career as an English and reading teacher and served as an Academy Coordinator and Data Specialist for DC Public Schools. She discovered her love of college counseling at the DC College Success Foundation, where she served as a College Preparatory Advisor. Returning to her hometown of Cincinnati, she served as the Director of College Counseling in the Cristo Rey Network. She volunteers on several committees for the Ohio Association of Academic Counseling (OACAC) and the Ohio School Counseling Association (OSCA).

Dr. Farley-Smith's research interests encompass school counseling, supervision, career development, foster care/adoption, and advocacy. Dr. Farley-Smith has presented at conferences at the local, regional, state, and national levels. She has publications including National Career Development Association Career Convergence. Committed to mentoring and shaping the next generation of counselors, she is dedicated to nurturing their professional growth and helping them foster a strong counseling identity.
