Brad Martin

My name is Brad Martin and I'm an HAB graduate, class of 2012. I'm currently stationed with the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade out of Katterbach, Germany. I'm a First Lieutenant and was previously serving as a Platoon leader in B Co 5-158 AVN REGT, aka "Big Windy," the only CH-47 Chinook unit in Europe. I was previously in charge of about 15 officers and enlisted personnel, managing their records and careers, managing the maintenance on 12 CH-47F helicopters for the Company, and planning events for the Battalion. I am currently deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan with Big Windy, serving under the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade out of Washington State and Alaska. I recently took over a platoon of around 70 maintenance personnel in D Company 1-52 AVN REGT. I am simultaneously flying as a UH-60L Blackhawk pilot in Day / Night / Night-Vision-Goggle Conditions.

I am looking into graduate school in International Relations for a possible career change to the State Department. I was a double major HAB and Political Science with an International Studies minor while at Xavier, and would like to pursue those interests.

To say anything about the HAB program in a few words is impossible. I have learned that it is not about learning Latin, ancient Greek, or Philosophy, but about molding the mind to take on any challenges and solve unique problems. While ROTC and political science helped mold my career aspirations, HAB helped shape me as a person. I would absolutely do HAB again and would have nothing but encouragement to those even mildly interested in the program.
