Sparking Our Students

|

Is it any surprise that our first-year students might be anxious about their futures?

Ubiquitous claims that today's careers will be displaced by not-yet-invented ones--or perhaps by artificial intelligence--only compound the stressful uncertainty carried by a generation raised on school-shooting drills and increasingly palpable climate degradation.

Last night, the annual Spark event brought together a panel of Xavier and Cincinnati community members to relate their own meandering paths to meaningful vocations.

What led you to where you are now? How did you deal with (and learn from) failure? Did your choice of college major matter?

The panelists answered these and other questions, offering hard-earned wisdom about discernment and vocation to students in our First Year Seminars, a foundational element of our distinctive Core Curriculum

If not an antidote to anxiety, the panelists offered a welcome spark of hope.
