Ben Muller Solo Thesis Exhibition, February 10-March 3, 2023

Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to announce a Solo Thesis Exhibition by Senior Art Major Ben Muller, February 10-March 3, 2023.  The Artist’s Reception will be Friday, February 10, 4:00-6:30.

Ben Muller presents Saturated, an installation.

The artist states: “Saturated is a testament to the innate value of color and identity in a culture that mass produces youth to be identical for corporate use. Upon entering the adult world, we are expected to abandon our sense of childhood imagination and creativity, and in its replacement, donning the gray, lifeless corporate lifestyle, losing all self-identity. Throughout a variety of mediums in my thesis, such as an animated short film and mural, I express a constant duality of “old to new” from old-school art culture, with traditional media and hand-animated cells, to new-gen art with digital illustrations to reinforce the repulsion of new age media by adopting historical identities. I also include culturally contrasting American 90’s underground hip-hop music, with a modern false utopian, concrete Shibuya, Japan. With this work, I hope to inspire others by showing how our identity and what makes us unique does not have to follow the traditional, accepted norms.”
