March 15, 2021
Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to announce thesis exhibitions by three Senior Art Majors: Yvonne Estrada; Drawing & Sculpture, Elise Mahlenkamp; Graphic Design, Andie Parady; Photography. Their exhibitions will be on display March 19-April 16, 2021.
Yvonne Estrada presents, Us – an exhibition in which she brings herself and her family to the world of Character Design and Sculpture. Drawings and sculptures of her family are showcased as if they were a part of the early stages of an animated film process. Her art focuses on two dimensional drawings, and how an artist uses those drawings and converts them to three dimensional models. This exhibition is a fun way for viewers to imagine themselves as a character in another world far from our reality.
Elise Mahlenkamp presents, Quiet - a magazine that explores rhetoric and its powerful influence in forming our social realities. The work specifically looks at rhetoric’s influence on the historical woman and how rhetoric tied to the female body has perpetuated shame and secrecy. Quiet combines writing, photography, and graphic design to create both a print and digital magazine edition. This exhibition invites the viewer to get comfortable in a living room space and enjoy the work in their own hands.
Andie Parady presents, Rose Colored- a body of work that explores themes of childhood and nostalgia through the lens of her camera. The show will feature both digital and film photographs displayed in an interactive environment for the viewer to explore.
